Recall: Ducati Multistrada 1200 & Ducati Diavel

Here’s a type of recall that we’ll begin to see more of in the coming years, Ducati North America is recalling 1,051 Diavel and Multistrada 1200 motorcycles because of a faulty software issue. A certain version of the hands free software package may cause the electronic steering lock to fail to disable during the “key on” process. The result is that a rider would be unable to move their motorcycle, at least not beyond a ...

2011 Estoril MotoGP FP1 Result: Simoncelli Takes Charge

Hostilities have been resumed in the MotoGP class at Estoril, and the first session of free practice turned into a much more interesting affair than FP1 usually manages. The lead swapped constantly throughout the session, with San Carlo Gresini's Marco Simoncelli and factory Yamaha man Jorge Lorenzo taking turns at the top, later joined by Repsol Honda's Casey Stoner.

Simoncelli came out on top at the end, setting the fastest lap at the very end of the session, and pushing Stoner down into 2nd, ahead of his Repsol teammate Dani Pedrosa. Jorge Lorenzo ended the session in 4th, ahead of Valentino Rossi, the Italian putting in a very strong showing on the Marlboro Ducati. Andrea Doviziso finished behind Rossi, but ahead of the Monster Tech 3 Yamaha of Colin Edwards and the second factory Yamaha of Ben Spies. Hector Barbera of the Aspar Ducati team and Randy de Puniet on the Pramac Ducati rounded out the top ten.

lvaro Bautista Hopeful for Estoril Return to MotoGP

lvaro Bautista is hopeful that he will return to MotoGP racing this weekend, as Rizla Suzuki heads to Estoril, Portugal for the third round of the season. Bautista was sidelined at the season-opener in Qatar when he broke his left femur during a high-speed crash, and many pegged his return to MotoGP at a much later round, like Le Mans for instance. To get back in the saddle, Bautista has been undergoing intensivephysiotherapy, and will ...

Aprilia Tuono V4 Street by Paris-Nord Moto

On paper the Aprilia Tuono V4 R is a monster, boasting the most horsepower in its class, and coming armed with a sophisticated electronics package to help hook-up the 162hp on the tarmac. While all the early ride reports are positive about the new true-blooded streetfighter, and we’re sure the slightly watered-down naked RSV4 would paint a silly grin on our face, it’s the headshot of this bike that makes us cringe just a little ...

The Troubles With Fuel Limits, Part 1: The Perfect Storm at Estoril, 2010

(This is the first installment in a, as yet undetermined-length, series examining the available data for the 800cc era MotoGP seasons to date: 2007-2010. )

New Rules in 2010, The Storm's Pre-cursors:

As the 2009 MotoGP season came to a close, the prelude to the longer-life engine rules had been put into place. The teams came to Valencia with 2010-specification engines for the post-race test. Each team, essentially, began with the same premise to make their 6 allotted engines last the entire season: cut RPM. As a consequence of the introduction of the 21-liter fuel limit in 2007, all of the teams struggled with methods for maximizing power and control under braking while limiting consumption. A de facto rev-limit would serve, in a small way, to bring a little more fuel into usable powerbands. However, Ducati arrived with a parallel strategy; an uneven-firing "long bang" motor. Both of their riders strongly preferred the feel and power delivery of this engine, so it became the center of development plans for the 2010 season.

A Behind the Scenes Look of Alpinestars HQ with Jon Kirham and Crescent Suzuki

Where does Crescent Suzuki’s Jon Kirkham go when he needs custom racing leathers made for his British Superbike Championship bid? Why Alpinestars of course. Testing in Spain before the 2011 season began, Kirkham stopped by the Alpinestars HQ in Italy to get fitted for his new racing suit, and the Crescent Suzuki team brought along its cameras to share the experience with everyone else.
